Dr Michael Yap’s practice is mainly in general neurology with a background of Internal Medicine, as many patients who encounter severe neurological problems also have associated general medical problems, particularly when admission is necessary.
Much of the outpatient clinic work is to assess a neurological problem referred by general practitioners of other doctors. Most of these patients, after completing investigations and the diagnosis is made, will not need further neurological management or follow-up, and would be directed back to the referring doctor.
Dr Yap’s particular interest is in making the diagnosis for patients with difficult and unusual headaches, giddiness, fainting or loss of consciousness, as well as neckaches, backaches, and difficulty with moving the upper or lower limbs including weakness or numbness. When necessary, EMG studies can also be done in his clinic.
